When Everything Feels Like It's Falling Apart

Jesus Calms the Storm
Jesus Calms the Storm

I’ve lived long enough to see some real storms—personal losses, church troubles, world events that shake you to the core.

There was a season when it felt like the very foundations under my feet were cracking.

I wondered, like so many do, “Lord, what can one ordinary believer do when everything solid seems to be giving way?”

Then Psalm 11 settled deep in my spirit, and it’s been an anchor ever since.

The Panic Around David

David’s friends saw danger coming and panicked: “Flee like a bird to your mountain! The wicked are bending their bows—the foundations of law and order are being destroyed!”

Sound familiar? We hear the same voices today: Run. Hide. Despair. But David refused to budge.

Why?

Two rock-solid truths held him steady—and they’ll hold you too.

Truth for Your Mind: God Is Still on His Throne

We love to think we’re in control, don’t we?

Like a little child clutching a toy steering wheel in the back seat, convinced he’s driving the car.

We’re not driving. God is. He’s on His throne in heaven—unchanged, undethroned, with a perfect plan far bigger than our fears.

When foundations shake down here, His throne doesn’t wobble one inch.

That calms the mind. He’s got the wheel.

Truth for Your Heart: God Is Still in His Temple

In David’s day, God’s presence dwelt in the temple—distant, veiled, hard to approach.

But Jesus changed everything. He became our temple. He tore the veil. He took our place on the cross so we could run straight into God’s arms anytime.

God isn’t far off watching our pain—He entered it. He suffered it. He’s with us right now, closer than our next breath.

That comforts the heart. We’re never alone.

Standing Steady in the Storm

With a calm mind (He rules) and a comforted heart (He’s near), we don’t have to flee or panic.

We stand. We trust. We pray. We love others while the world shakes.

The cross proves it: God doesn’t abandon us in suffering—He joins us, redeems it, and will one day end it forever.

Let This Sink In

Next time fear whispers “Run!” or “It’s hopeless,” answer back with Psalm 11:

“The Lord is in His holy temple;

the Lord is on His throne in heaven.”

He’s got you. He’s got this.

Prayer

Father,

When the news scares us, when health fails, when everything we counted on wobbles—steady us.

Remind our minds You’re still reigning, wiser than we’ll ever know.

Warm our hearts with Your nearness through Jesus.

Teach us not to flee, but to stand—trusting the One who never leaves His throne or His people.

We rest in You today.

In the strong name of Jesus,

Amen.
