Led by the Holy Spirit—In Line With God’s Heart
We’re continuing our journey to learn how to be led by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:13 reminds us that it’s God’s heart’s desire for us to follow His Spirit.
You’re right there, in sync with the Father! Today, let’s explore another powerful truth about the Spirit.
The Spirit is Lord—and That Means Freedom
In 2 Corinthians 3:17, Paul says, “Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
That “Lord” Paul talks about is the sacred name of God—Jehovah or Yahweh from the Old Testament.
Paul is telling us something huge: The Holy Spirit is God—fully as much as the Father and the Son.
If you believe God the Father and Jesus are Lord, you must also embrace the Lordship of the Holy Spirit.
And here’s the best part: where the Spirit of the Lord shows up, there’s true freedom—real liberty.
It’s not about rules, procedures, or emotional expressions like clapping or shouting (though those aren’t bad in their place). It’s about obeying the Spirit’s guidance, moment by moment.
Beware of Ruts and Bondage
If you get stuck thinking freedom is one particular way of acting, you’re actually boxed in. True freedom is letting the Holy Spirit lead every moment of your life.
Only then can Jesus be truly Lord in you—both in the church and in your personal walk.
Here’s the simple, honest truth again: no system, theology, or human ministry can replace the Holy Spirit. He’s absolutely essential.
That’s why building a personal relationship with Him is the key.
Reflect
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there’s freedom. Yet, it’s easy to cling to familiar roles, routines, and rituals for safety.
Do you see that tendency in yourself? What fears come up when you think about handing over control to the Spirit?
A Prayer for Today
Holy Spirit, I believe and confess that You are Lord. I want to be led by You in every situation. Help me overcome my fears of losing control. Teach me to follow wherever You lead. Amen.
