Time To Mature

Two Key Ways the Holy Spirit Connects Us to God
The Holy Spirit does two big things in our lives as God’s children. First, He’s the one who makes us new—born again of the Spirit.
That’s a one-time event, a fresh start. But here’s the thing—there’s a second, ongoing work that’s just as important: the Spirit’s job of maturing us, helping us grow into responsible, mature sons of God.
Growing Up, Spirit-Style
God doesn’t intend for us to stay like little children forever. His plan is for us to grow up—responsible, confident, in control of our lives, living with authority.
But here’s the truth—apart from the Holy Spirit, we can’t do that. We need His help every step of the way.
Paul says in Romans 8:14, “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Notice the tense—this isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a continual, ongoing process. Every day, every hour, we need to be willing to listen and follow His lead.
Why Many Stay Immature
Many Christians have been born into God's family but never learn to be led by the Spirit.
They stay as spiritual babies because they don’t understand how the Spirit wants to lead them. The good news?
The Spirit is not some distant idea—He’s a person, alive and wanting to guide us. All we need is to listen and learn to recognize His voice.
Getting Sensitive to the Spirit
The key to growing up spiritually is sensitivity. We have to develop the habit of tuning in to the Spirit—learning to hear, see, and obey His prompts.
It's like building a friendship; you get better at recognizing your friend’s voice the more you pay attention.
Reflect
God wants you to be led by His Spirit every day, so you can become the mature child He designed you to be. What’s your reason for wanting to follow His lead? Think about that for a moment.
A prayer for today
Father, Your plan is for me to grow into a mature child—one who knows how to act and live with authority because of Your Spirit. Thank You for His guidance. Give me ears to hear and eyes to see His prompts today. Help me trust Him more. Amen.
