Two vital roles of the Holy Spirit
Let’s talk about something amazing: the Holy Spirit doesn’t just hang around—He actually makes us children of God.
That’s right. Through the Spirit, we are born again, born from above, and welcomed into God’s family. Jesus said it clearly in John 3:5–8.
Born of the Spirit
Jesus explains, “Unless you are born of water and the Spirit, you can’t enter God’s kingdom.”
Think about that phrase: “born of the Spirit.” It’s the key. There’s no shortcut, no backdoor—this is how you become God’s child.
The Holy Spirit comes into your life through faith in Jesus and His Word, giving you a brand-new, spiritual life.
It’s not just a slight upgrade—it’s a whole new creation inside you, the life of God Himself flowing through the Spirit.
Two kinds of birth
Jesus makes a sharp distinction. Everyone is born naturally—flesh to flesh—which just means we descend from Adam.
But being born this way doesn’t make you a child of God. To really become part of God’s family, you need a spiritual rebirth, a rebirth by the Holy Spirit.
It’s the Spirit who breathes this totally new, divine life into us—from above.
When that happens, you’re no longer just from Adam’s line; you become a beloved child of God with a new identity and a powerful family legacy.
Reflect
There’s only one way to become a child of God: be born again. So, why do you think being born again really matters? Take a moment to ask God about it.
A prayer for today
Heavenly Father, thank you for making me your child. Thank you for the new life you began in me through Your Holy Spirit. I’m no longer just a child of Adam—my true identity comes from You, my loving Father. Amen.
