What the Holy Spirit Is Not
Let’s clear something up right away. The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force. He’s not some abstract idea, a rulebook, or a church system.
He’s not a line in a creed or an institution’s hierarchy. The Holy Spirit is a person—a living, active person who wants a relationship with you.
A Quick Look at Church History
If I had to sum up church history in one sentence, it would be this: nineteen centuries of people trying to create systems safe enough so they wouldn’t have to rely on the Holy Spirit.
But here’s the truth—no system, no grand theology, no organization, no human ministry can replace the Spirit. He is absolutely indispensable.
The Key to Relationship: Sensitivity
So, how do we build this personal relationship with the Spirit? It’s really the same as all good relationships—parent to child, spouse to spouse, friend to friend.
The keyword is sensitivity. We have to learn to be sensitive to His voice, His promptings, His presence.
Reflect
For some, being led by the Holy Spirit feels risky. They’d rather stay in the safe zone of theory or theology. But the question is: Are you willing to trust Him personally today?
A Prayer for Today
God Almighty, help me to be sensitive to Your Holy Spirit and to never ignore His gentle nudges. I’m grateful for the theology that teaches me about You, but without being led personally by Your Spirit, it means nothing. Today, I choose to trust Him. Amen.
