Jesus and the Holy Spirit — Perfect Harmony
In everything Jesus did, He was in complete harmony with the Holy Spirit. That relationship was the secret to His entire ministry.
When He spoke in His hometown synagogue, He read from Isaiah and said: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor... to proclaim freedom for the prisoners... to release the oppressed...” (Luke 4:17–21)
The Power Behind Jesus’ Ministry
Notice something important—the New Testament doesn’t record a single sermon or miracle before the Holy Spirit anointed Jesus.
His power and purpose started the moment the Spirit came on Him. He was totally dependent on this anointing.
Jesus Our Pattern
Jesus emptied Himself of divine majesty, took on human form, and became a servant. But once the Holy Spirit came upon Him, the power of God flowed through Him.
That’s our example too. We are called to walk in that same dependence on the Spirit’s anointing.
Peter’s Witness to the Anointing
When Peter spoke to Cornelius’s household (Acts 10:38), he reminded everyone again: Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and power.
It was this anointing that enabled Him to do good and heal those oppressed by the enemy.
Reflect
Jesus was fully dependent on the Holy Spirit—and so are you, if you want to be effective for God’s kingdom. How does it feel to embrace that kind of dependence?
A Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your ministry on earth and for Your ongoing work in heaven. You came to do Your Father’s will—bringing freedom, healing, blessing, and victory over the enemy. You were perfectly united with the Father and the Spirit. I want to be fully dependent on the Holy Spirit too. Fill me today with Your power so I can follow Your footsteps and overflow with Your love and strength. Amen.
