You’re Already Full—No “Ifs” or “Buts” About It

Colossians 2:10

The Verse That Grabbed Me by the Collar

Colossians 2:10 hits hard and fast:

“And in Him you have been filled to fullness.”

Not “you could be.”

Not “you’ll get there if you hustle.”

Not “you’re almost full—just a bit more effort.”

You. Have. Been. Filled.

It’s done. Sealed by Christ’s sacrifice. No fine print.

The Greek Root That Shattered My Self-Effort

Dig into the original Greek: the key word here is from plēroō (πληρόω), meaning to fill completely, to make whole without any gaps. It’s tied to plērōma (πλήρωμα), the noun for absolute fullness—the total sum, brimming over, nothing left out.

Imagine a cup not just topped off but overflowing. That’s your spiritual reality. Right this second. Not tomorrow’s version of you. Not the polished, sin-free you. The raw, mid-mess you scrolling through this post.

Why We Drag Around Like Empty Vessels

Because feelings lie.

But let’s be real—feelings scream otherwise.

I’ve paced my study at midnight, Bible open, heart pounding with doubt:

Am I really enough? What if I’ve blown it too many times?

Preached sermons on grace while my insides twisted like a pretzel, leaking shame from old wounds.

Familiar sins creeping back.

Fears whispering, “You’re hollow inside.”

Those emotions? They’re liars.

Master manipulators.

The verdict isn’t from your gut—it’s from the throne room.

And God’s ruling? Full. Complete. Overflowing.

No appeal needed.

The Moment I Dropped the Bucket

I hit rock bottom chasing spiritual refills:

More Bible studies. Longer prayers. Fewer slip-ups. Extra service hours.

It was like doing endless laps in a pool, gasping for air.

Then, in a quiet dawn prayer, the Spirit cut through: Stop. You’re dipping from an infinite sea.

Jesus didn’t leave a sliver for me to fill. He poured it all—every drop—covering cracks I didn’t even know existed.

Secret regrets? Flooded with forgiveness.

Hidden fears? Submerged in peace.

That shift? It wasn’t gradual. It hit like a wave, washing away the exhaustion.

Living From Overflow, Not Empty Tanks

Shift your mindset from earning to embracing:

  • When you mess up (and you will): Pause. Breathe. Declare: Still full. Grace covers this.

  • When anxiety spikes: Don’t spiral—counter with truth: The source is endless. I’m tapped in.

  • When doubts mock “not enough”: Grin back. Fire off Colossians 2:10 like a shield.

Fullness isn’t something you grind for.

You sink into it. Savor it. Let it splash onto others—your family, coworkers, that stranger in line.

Watch how it transforms the ordinary.

A Prayer for the Weary Soul

Lord Jesus,

I’ve chased shadows, scraping for scraps when You’ve served a feast.

Thank You for flooding my broken places with Your endless fullness.

Break the cycle of striving; teach me to rest in what’s already mine.

Not based on fleeting feelings, but Your finished work.

I’m full. I’m held. And that’s more than enough.

Amen.
