When the Bread Gets Broken: That's When the Miracle Happens

Picture this: A massive crowd—five thousand men, plus women and kids—out in the middle of nowhere. Stomachs growling. Sun dipping low. The disciples freak out: "Jesus, send 'em home before they faint from hunger!"
Jesus just smiles and says, "Nah. You feed them."
All they've got? Five loaves. Two fish. A kid's sack lunch.
Then Jesus does something crazy. He takes the bread, looks up to heaven, gives thanks... and breaks it.
He breaks it.
And right there in the breaking, the miracle explodes. Pieces passed out, multiplied in hands, everyone stuffed full, twelve baskets of leftovers.
But stop right there. The bread had to be broken before it could feed thousands.
That's the heart-gripper for me.
Later, in that upper room, Jesus takes bread again. Gives thanks. Breaks it. And says, "This is my body, broken for you."
His body broken. On a cross. Blood spilled. For you. For me.
We hate breaking, don't we? A shattered marriage. A diagnosis that knocks the wind out of you. Dreams crushed. Bank account empty. Heart in pieces.
Feels like we've only got five loaves and two fish—not nearly enough.
But bring your little, your broken, to Jesus.
Let Him break it.
That's where the abundance starts.
He doesn't throw away our pain. He multiplies it—for His glory, for our good, for feeding a hungry world.
Out of His breaking comes life that never ends. Forgiveness that overflows. Grace with baskets left over.
So if you're broken today—good. You're in the Master's hands.
Trust the One who was broken for you.
Come hungry to Him. Eat your fill. And watch the leftovers pile up.
He's got more than enough.
In the grace of the Broken Bread,
Pastor Dick
