DAY 5 – Rescue & Redemption by Pastor Dick
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. — Colossians 1:13–14 (NIV)
Review from Yesterday
Yesterday we saw how walking closely with Jesus lets the Holy Spirit share God’s incredible perspective with us.
We gain wisdom, understanding, and come to know God’s heart and character on a deeper level.
With that come beautiful blessings:
Bearing fruit.
Doing good works.
Growing in knowledge of God.
Strengthened endurance and patience.
Hearts full of gratitude, peace, and joy.
All of these blessings come back to one truth: It’s all because of the gospel.
The Gospel: Our Rescue & Our Hope
The gospel isn’t just good advice—it is life-changing truth.
Because of the gospel:
We are made right with God.
Adopted into His family.
Given an eternal inheritance as His holy people.
This isn’t something we earn. Jesus gave it by His blood. We are holy and beloved children of God. Say that again—WOW!
Jesus: Our Rescuer
Picture this: without Jesus, we were stuck in darkness, no way out.
The Greek word for rescued means “to snatch out of danger,” and that is exactly what Jesus did.
We couldn’t save ourselves with our efforts or goodness. But Jesus stepped into our darkness and pulled us into His marvelous light.
Jesus: Our Redeemer
More than a rescue, He bought our freedom. The Greek word “redemption” means “to pay the ransom.”
Jesus:
Paid the full price for our sins.
Forgave our failures.
Freed us from slavery to sin and shame.
Welcomed us into His kingdom of love.
Now, we live forgiven, free, and secure—not in despair.
Living in Light of Redemption
Because of Jesus, we are:
Forgiven.
Qualified.
Free.
Hopeful for today and eternity.
No longer bound by past mistakes or shame, we walk confidently in His light—“Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Friends, Jesus paid it all, and we get to live in the joy of His rescue and redemption every day. Now that’s GOOD NEWS!
Reflection Questions
What does the gospel personally mean to you today?
How are you living with gratitude and joy for the salvation you already have—and the eternity to come?
Today, pause and thank the Lord for rescuing and redeeming you. Say it out loud or write a few sentences of praise.
