DAY 2 – Grace & Peace by Pastor Dick
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ: Grace and peace to you from God our Father. — Colossians 1:1–2 (NIV)
A Picture of Twins
Did you know twins have a special connection that lasts a lifetime? Science confirms—those two are bonded like superglue!
That’s how I see “grace” and “peace.” They’re a matched pair, always together, and not just in real life but in almost every greeting Paul gives.
Grace & Peace in Scripture
You’ll notice Paul never says, “peace and grace”—it’s always grace first, peace second.
Grace (charis): In Greek culture, this was the friendly “hello.” But in the New Testament, grace means God pours out His kindness, joy, and favor—even when we don’t deserve it.
Peace (shalom): The classic Jewish greeting. Shalom is deeper than no fighting at the dinner table—it’s a wholeness, harmony in the soul, a restored relationship with God.
One author put it like this: “An inner calm rooted in knowing you’re safe with God.”
Grace Comes Before Peace
Here’s a neat observation: Paul uses this order every time. Why? Because we can’t experience true peace until we’ve been changed by grace.
Grace is the root. Peace is the fruit. God’s grace draws us into fellowship with Him.
Peace is what grows out—resting securely in God’s love, forgiveness, and presence.
For Us Today
Pause for a moment. When we bask in His grace, peace follows. It hushes our fears, calms our hearts, steadies us in shaky times.
So today, take a deep breath. Receive His grace—and let His peace settle over your soul.
Reflection Questions
Where have you seen God’s grace and peace show up in your life lately?
Is there an area right now where you could use a fresh dose of God’s peace?
Take a few moments asking God to help you rest in His grace and be enveloped by His peace.
