DAY 23 - Always Accountability by Pastor Dick
Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.—Colossians 3:22 (NKJV)
How Christ Changes Work
Paul has just shown us how Jesus transforms our family life. Now, he moves on to another important part of life: our work.
Paul talks to both employees and employers—bondservants and masters in his day. Today, that means workers and bosses.
For Employees: Serve God, Not Just People
The word bondservant means someone fully dedicated to the will of another. Employees are to obey their employers, but with a deeper motivation: they serve God through their work.
This means working sincerely and faithfully, even when no one’s watching, because they understand their true Master is Christ.
No cutting corners or hiding mistakes.
Giving their best, respecting authority.
Doing all their work as if serving Jesus Himself.
For Employers: Be Fair and Just
Paul also reminds employers they are accountable—just like employees.
They must treat workers fairly and justly.
They cannot take advantage of those under them.
God is watching and will hold masters accountable.
Both sides serve Christ and must live with integrity.
The Common Thread: Accountability to Christ
Employees and employers share one important thing: both are accountable to God.
Knowing this changes how they act.Workers give their best out of respect for Christ. Employers lead with fairness and justice because they too must answer to Him.
This balance protects workers and leads to healthy work environments.
Reflection Questions
What do employees and employers have in common according to Paul?
How does accountability to Christ affect the way we work and manage?
Pray about areas where you need to grow in accountability to God—at work or leadership. Then talk with a trusted Christian friend or mentor about how to take steps forward.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are the true Master of all. Help me to serve others with sincerity and respect, knowing I serve You above all. For employers, give wisdom to lead justly and kindly. May every role be done to honor You. Amen.
