DAY 21 – Attitude of Gratitude by Pastor Dick
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” — Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV)
Living with Thankful Hearts
Paul doesn’t just say “be nice.” He passionately says, “Be thankful!” Gratitude isn’t just a polite afterthought—it’s the heartbeat of a life rooted in Christ.
When Christ’s peace fills us, thankfulness flows naturally—like a cheerful spring bubbling up when we remember all Christ has done for us.
Gratitude Shapes Community
Paul reminds us we’re part of one body—a church family. Gratitude glues that family together.
It’s hard to stay divided when your heart is full of thanks. It's hard to hang on to pride when you’re thankful for God’s grace. It's hard to judge others when you remember your own forgiveness.
Gratitude builds peace and unity in our relationships, making us a powerful sign of God’s love.
Gratitude Shapes Worship
Paul tells us to let the message of Christ dwell richly within. That’s when psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs become real worship—full of gratitude in our hearts.
Gratitude transforms simple words and melodies into holy praise.
Gratitude Shapes Daily Life
Paul widens the picture even more. Whatever you do — washing dishes, working, facing challenges — do it all in Jesus’ name with a heart full of thanks.
Gratitude turns the ordinary into the holy. It’s the secret ingredient in everyday moments.
Reflection Questions
Why do you think Paul ties gratitude so closely to peace, worship, and community life?
What’s one part of your daily life where choosing gratitude might change things?
Write down three things you’re thankful for today—big or small—and thank God out loud. Share one with someone else to spread the joy.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for every gift—seen and unseen—from Your hand. Teach me to let Christ’s peace rule my heart and to clothe each day in gratitude. May everything I do be marked with thanksgiving and done in Jesus’ name. Amen.
