Part 2: What Does ‘Love in the Spirit’ Look Like?
Scripture: "...who also told us about your love in the Spirit." (Colossians 1:8)
Let’s Talk About Real Love
Paul heard from Epaphras about the deep love in the Colossian church. But this wasn’t just ordinary kindness or friendly words. Paul called it “love in the Spirit.”
What does that mean? It’s love that starts with Jesus and keeps growing stronger—not just because of our own effort, but because of the indwelling life of the Spirit.
How Can We Spot ‘Love in the Spirit’?
Here are some signs:
Patience with people, especially on tough days.
Forgiving others, even when they hurt us.
Helping, listening, and caring without expecting anything back.
Celebrating good things in someone else’s life.
It’s the kind of love that leads us to pray for others, share our hope, and lift someone up when they’re down.
Why Does This Kind of Love Matter?
It brings peace in families and churches.
It makes people feel safe and included.
It shows everyone what Jesus is like.
It turns little moments—like a hug or encouraging word—into ways God touches hearts.
Let’s Journal Together
Can you remember a time someone showed you “love in the Spirit”? How did it change your day?
When is it hard for you to love others? Ask Jesus for help.
What’s one way you want to share that love this week?
Questions to Wonder About
Why do you think Paul noticed this kind of love in the Colossian church?
How can we spread “love in the Spirit” in our own families, friendships, or ministry?
Who needs a bit of that love from you today?
A Simple Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank You for giving us real, lasting love. May Your love grow strong in our church, our family, and my heart. Enable me to show patience, kindness, and courage—one day at a time. Let Your love be the thing people notice most in me. Amen.
