Home in Him—Learning to See What’s Already True

It never fails to amaze me how the Lord keeps drawing me deeper into the simple, life-changing truth of His nearness.
Just this morning, while reading Colossians 1:21–22, the words jumped off the page:
But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.
I have to tell you, these verses bring happy tears to my eyes every time. There’s something about knowing that it’s not my hard work or good behavior that makes me “close” to God—it’s Christ. And what He’s done is already finished.
Before—and After
Paul always surprises me with his “before and after” language. He says, “Once you were alienated…enemies in your minds…” Imagine!
Not enemies in reality, but in our minds. Before we understood what Christ really did, there was this deep (sometimes silent) feeling that we were far from God. I sure know that feeling—guilt, shame, striving, wondering if I’d ever measure up.
But then comes that beautiful contrast: “But now he has reconciled you.” Not “one day he might,” but “he HAS.”
Right now! Not because I climbed a holy ladder or fixed myself, but because Jesus Christ stepped right into my brokenness, loved me, and by His real life and death made me totally and forever at home in the Father’s heart.
Like a Fish in Water
I’ll never forget a teaching that changed me: “We’re like fish in water, and the water is in the fish.”
God is the ocean of Spirit, and we are always surrounded by Him—even when we don’t know it.
Only our minds, shaped by old hurts or religion, convince us we’re outside or still searching. But truth (revelation!) comes like warm sunlight.
The eyes of our heart open, and suddenly—once you see it, you can’t unsee it. You realize that the “distance” between you and Jesus was never real; it was just in your thinking.
And what freedom there is in letting go of the striving, the guilt, and the fear of rejection! Paul’s words ring in my heart: “He presents us holy in his sight, without blemish, and free from accusation.” Can anything be sweeter?
Free from all accusation—nothing and no one (not even my old self) can say otherwise.
Meditation & Living Loved
Here’s what I do when my heart needs a reminder:
I read Colossians 1:21–22 slowly, picturing myself as a fish in the ocean of God’s Spirit.
I ask, “Father, what barriers in my mind do I still see? Where am I still living like I’m on the outside looking in?”
I thank Him for the truth, even when I don’t feel it—because Jesus makes it true.
I listen and rest, letting His Spirit assure me that I belong and am loved.
Let’s keep reminding each other: You are already home in Him. He’s closer than your breath, kinder than you dreamed, and has forever put away anything that would keep you apart.
Let’s open our eyes, receive His love, and joyfully live in what cannot be undone.
With hope and happy tears, Cindy
