A Gap You Can't Jump
Do you know the distance between God's ways and ours is as far as the heavens are from the earth. Immeasurable. Uncrossable — at least from our side.
So how do we get there? We don't. That's the point.
The solution doesn't rise up from the earth. It comes down from heaven. And it originates with God — not with us. Left to ourselves, we have nothing.
Rain Does What Rain Does
God gives us the picture Himself, in Isaiah 55:10–13:
"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the pine tree, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord's renown, for an everlasting sign, which will not be destroyed." (NIV)
Look at what God is doing here. Rain doesn't ask permission. It doesn't need your help. It falls, it soaks the ground, and things grow. That's just what rain does.
God says His Word works the same way. It goes out from His mouth, it comes down, and it accomplishes exactly what He sent it to do. Every time.
The Word Is the Bridge
So here's the answer to the gap. How do God's higher ways and higher thoughts reach us down here? Through His Word. The Word of God is the bridge between heaven's thinking and yours.
But this isn't automatic. It's a decision. A deep decision of faith that every one of us has to make personally. Will I let the Holy Spirit apply His Word to every situation in my life? Every question. Every problem. Every crossroad. The answers are always found there. The direction and destination of your entire life are decided by this.
Thorn bushes become pine trees. Briers become myrtle. That's what happens when you let His Word come down and do its work in your heart.
Prayer Response
Lord, I praise You for Your precious Word, full of life and strength. I want to feed on it and proclaim Your truths over my family, my work, my friendships — my whole life. For Your Word is the truth. Amen.
