Be an Overcomer
The promise nobody gets without a fight
The Day I Realized God’s Favorite Subject Is Still the Church
Open Revelation 2–3.
Seven letters.
All to churches.
Not to Rome.
Not to Caesar.
Not to the United Nations.
To us.
To messy, struggling, sometimes failing local churches.
Five out of seven get the same gut-punch:
“I know your works…
Repent.”
If Jesus audited most churches today,
the ratio would probably still be five out of seven.
He hasn’t changed His focus.
He still measures by deeds, not slogans.
Repentance Isn’t a Bad Word—It’s the Door
You can fast forty days,
quote the entire Bible,
and post worship lyrics every morning.
If there’s no repentance,
the blessings bounce off like rain on a tin roof.
Repentance isn’t beating yourself up.
It’s turning around.
It’s dropping the thing you’ve been clutching
and running back to the Father who’s already running toward you.
No repentance → no open door.
It really is that simple.
The Phrase Jesus Repeats Seven Times
Every letter ends with the same drumbeat:
“To him who overcomes…”
Not “to him who attends.”
Not “to him who tries hard.”
Not “to him who is comfortable.”
To the overcomer.
Seven letters.
Seven promises.
Zero promises for the passive.
The Final Score Has Already Been Posted
Revelation 21:7 — the last will and testament of God:
“He who overcomes will inherit all things,
and I will be his God
and he will be My son.”
Notice who does NOT inherit all things:
the fearful,
the lukewarm,
the “I’ll get serious later” crowd.
There’s only one category that walks away with the crown:
overcomers.
How to Overcome When You Feel Like You’re Losing
Romans 12:21 — the battle plan in eight words:
“Do not be overcome by evil,
but overcome evil with good.”
You beat darkness by flooding it with light.
You beat hate by out-loving it.
You beat lies by speaking truth louder and longer.
The devil’s strategy is to wear you out.
Jesus’ strategy is to out-last him!
