Align Your Thinking With God's Thinking!

Two paths becoming one — that's what it looks like to walk in agreement with God.
Two paths becoming one — that's what it looks like to walk in agreement with God.

The Gap You Didn't Know Was There

You want to walk with God. You said the prayer. You meant it. But something feels off. Like two people on the same path who keep drifting out of step. Why?

Amos asks the question that stops you in your tracks:

"Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (NKJV)

That word agreed isn't about nodding your head. It means to harmonize — in your ways and in your thoughts. You can't walk with someone when you're headed in two different directions. And here's the hard truth: by nature, your ways and God's ways are not the same. Not even close.

How Far Apart?

God doesn't sugarcoat it. In Isaiah 55:6–9, He lays it out:

"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. 'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'" (NIV)

Catch what God is saying. He doesn't say the gap is small. He doesn't say you're almost there. He says the distance between His thinking and yours is like the distance between the heavens and the earth. Immeasurable.

Where the Real Turning Happens

And notice — when God calls us to turn to Him, He doesn't just mean outward behavior. He goes deeper. Forsake his way. Forsake his thoughts. That's where the real turning happens.

Not in what you do on Sunday morning. In how you think on Tuesday afternoon.

God is saying, "Give Me your old way of thinking. Let Me replace it with Mine."

But Here's the Good News

Read the beginning of that passage one more time. "Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near." He's not far off. He's not hiding. Right now — this moment — He is near.

He is findable. And He is inviting you to trade your thoughts for His.

That's not a demand. That's an open door.

Prayer Response

Lord, I realize that my own thoughts and paths are very different from Yours. I want to repent and make Your thoughts my thoughts. Thank You for being close to me at this moment and that You let Yourself be found. Amen. Pastor Dick's Devotionals
