And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. —1 John 2:28
How Do You Get Ready for Jesus’ Return?
Let’s cut to the chase. Want to be ready when Jesus comes back? Don’t worry about packing a suitcase or making a checklist.
Scripture gives us the answer: just be with Jesus every day. It’s really that simple—and better than any travel plan I’ve come up with!
If you’re living each day in His presence, you’re well on your way. Or as I sometimes say, “If you’re talking with Him more than your neighbor, you’re probably in good shape.”
Be at Home With Jesus
John calls us “little children”—I think that’s his gentle way of saying, “Come on in and make yourself at home.”
Abiding in Jesus isn’t some mystical exercise for spiritual experts. It’s just daily life with Him, letting the Holy Spirit do what He does best: shape us up.
If your words, your steps, and your choices are aiming to please Him, then you can look forward to His return without fear.
Instead of dreading a stern visit, you’re welcoming a beloved friend coming back from a long trip. (And you won’t be scrambling to tidy up the living room.)
Proof in the Pudding—or the Person
Now, John’s practical: abiding in Jesus shows up in a changed life. The Holy Spirit gets busy, and after a while, it’s obvious—you’re living with a righteous and loving Savior.
Our faith in Christ isn’t just something we talk about; it’s something we chase after in the way we live.
And here’s the good part: when you’re abiding in Him, you can stand tall at His coming. No shame.
Just confidence—like seeing an old friend walk through the door, not the tax collector.
Encouragement for the Journey
So, friend, don’t stress about tomorrow; lean into Jesus today. He’s not asking for perfection.
He’s inviting you to walk, talk, and live with Him—one day at a time. The beauty is, the more we abide, the more we become like the Savior we adore.
Stay close to Him, and let the Holy Spirit handle the renovations. It’s a good way to prepare for any surprise visits from Jesus—no cleaning frantic necessary.
And just as a gentle reminder: If you’re abiding, you can look forward to His coming—smile and open the door wide!
