Faith Comes!

True story by Derek Prince I spent a whole year trapped in a hospital bed, desperate for healing.

I knew God could do it—if only I had enough faith.

But every time I reached for it, my hands came back empty.

Then one quiet day, a single verse slipped into my heart like a lifeline:

"So faith comes from hearing..." (Romans 10:17).

And something inside me whispered, If faith comes... then I don't have to manufacture it. I just have to learn how to receive it.

That verse changed everything. It became the door to my healing.

The Day I Stopped Trying to "Have" Faith

Lying there, day after day, I kept telling myself the same frustrating story:

"If I had faith, God would heal me.

But I don't have faith.

So I'm stuck."

The doctors and nurses were wonderful—I thank God for them—but they couldn't fix what was wrong. My only real hope was God Himself.

Then Romans 10:17 showed up.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word [rhema] of Christ.

I grabbed hold of it. If faith comes, that means it's a gift that arrives—not something I have to drum up on my own.

I prayed over that verse. I pondered it. I waited on God.

And slowly, gently, He began to show me the simple process behind it.

How Faith Actually Comes (Three Quiet Stages)

There's a beautiful rhythm to this. Lay hold of it—it's changed my life and it can change yours.

  1. God speaks — He gives a rhema word. Not just any Bible verse, but Scripture made alive and personal by the Holy Spirit. A word quickened straight to your situation.

  2. We hear — We open ourselves in stillness. We quiet the noise, suspend the busy thoughts, and truly listen. This isn't usually instant—it takes time, an inner posture of rest and expectancy.

  3. Faith comes — Out of that true hearing, faith rises up naturally, like dawn after a long night.

Most of us rush past the middle step. We read the Bible or hear a sermon and the words just fly by. But when we settle into stillness—mind at rest, spirit open—something shifts. We begin to hear. And from that hearing, faith is born.

Prayer

Father, I’ve always wanted and prayed for more faith, but now I understand how my faith can grow, and how You increase my faith! Help me, Lord to take time to quiet my spirit in Your presence, every day, so I can listen to Your voice and my faith may grow. In Jesus’ Name, amen!
