That Unforgettable Moment
Imagine the scene—Jesus and Peter standing there, eye to eye, with the gentle breeze off the Sea of Galilee.
Peter boldly declares:
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)
This wasn’t just a clever answer. Jesus said Peter’s understanding didn’t come from human wisdom or study.
It was a personal revelation straight from God the Father.
Building on the Rock Means Meeting Christ Personally
This encounter shows us what building on Christ, the Rock, really means. It’s not about theories or hearing sermons.
It’s about meeting Jesus, hearing Him, and responding personally. Peter’s journey had four key steps:
1. A Personal Confrontation
Peter didn’t learn who Jesus was from a sermon or book.
He stood face-to-face with Him.
No middleman, just Peter and Jesus.
Building starts with encountering Christ directly.
2. A Revelation from the Father
Jesus told Peter:
“Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)
True faith isn’t figured out by us—it’s a gift from God’s heart.
When God reveals Jesus to you, everything changes.
3. A Personal Acknowledgment
With eyes opened, Peter didn’t stay silent.
He clung tightly to the truth:
“You are the Christ.”
It was conviction, not convenience.
4. An Open Confession
Peter didn’t whisper his faith.
He spoke loud and clear.
Building on Christ means believing in your heart and proclaiming with your mouth.
Living on Solid Ground
Through confrontation, revelation, acknowledgment, and confession, Peter built on an unshakable foundation.
It’s the same for us today. You don’t have to be a theologian. You need to meet Jesus, let God reveal Him to you, accept the truth, and then speak it out.
That solid foundation is Christ Himself.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Rock beneath my feet. You’re not just a theory or idea—you are the living Christ who meets me face-to-face. Help me recognize Your voice when You reveal truth. Teach me to not only believe quietly but confess openly. When storms come, remind me that my security is in You alone. Anchor me deep in Your love, steady my steps by Your Word, and keep my eyes fixed on You—the Rock that never moves.
Amen.
